Flax Seeds For Hair Gel!

Hello and Salaams to all you wonderful people out there that may or may not be reading this post right now! 😀

I thought that I’d share with you all a quick, easy, and inexpensive way to make your own hair gel at home. Usually I go to a beauty store to buy hair gel and usually it ends up making my natural kinks and coils dry and crunchy, which means that I have to fully wet my hair or do a co-wash before one is need. AIN’T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT! So today I’m coming to you with a DIY of flax seed hair gel you can make right in your own kitchen. It’s a lot easier than you think and costs nearly nothing to make, so don’t worry, ya girl has got ya back! 😉

I first came across this flax seed hair gel way back in 2012. That’s when I did my very first b.c. (big chop, for those that may not know). I was searching the web and YouTube for different styles and natural hair products since I was new to it all. I came across Naptural85’s channel and since then, she was my go-to for anything natural hair related. She had a recipe on there on how to make your own flax seed hair gel. At the time I never heard about this but I thought that I’d give it a whirl and see how it would come out. Needless to say, I absolutely LOVED this idea of using all natural items to make hair products and it worked wonderfully! Ever since then, I’ve been making my own gel and tinkering with the recipe here and there. It’s universal so anyone can use it, (unless you’re allergic to flax seeds) and you can whatever you want in it. Now, enough chit-chat, let’s get to the DIY thingy!

To make this gel I used:

  • Organic Coconut Oil
  • Essential Oil (Jasmine) for fragrance
  • 1/3 cup of Organic Brown Flax Seeds
  • Aloe Vera Gel
  • 2 cups of Water
  • small pot to boil seeds and water
  • clean and unused stocking
  • 1 tbsp and a 1/3 measuring cup
  • wooden spoon
  • tongs

Here is everything that I used to make the hair gel.

DSCN0804

1/3 cup of flax seeds.

DSCN0803.JPG

The pot I used to cook the seeds. Place the 2 cups water and seeds into the pot to boil.

DSCN0809

I boiled the seeds for about 15-20 minutes.

DSCN0812.JPG

Before you try to strain the seeds, make sure to have a container that has a top. I placed my clean and unused stocking over the container to act as a strainer.

DSCN0815.JPG

Next I took the tongs and squeezed the remaining gel from the stocking. Looks slimy, right? *If you do this directly after, be sure to use caution as the gel and seeds are very hot!*

DSCN0817.JPG

This is what it looked like once I was done with the stocking and tongs.

DSCN0818.JPG

I plan on using these seeds again to make more hair gel. Simply place the used seeds into a plastic baggy and squeeze the remaining air out. Recycle, reuse, reduce!

DSCN0819.JPG

After that I added these 3 products to the gel. 1 tbsp of coconut oil, 1 tbsp of aloe vera gel and a few drops of jasmine oil for fragrance.

DSCN0820.JPG

1 tbsp of coconut oil.

DSCN0822.JPG

1 tbsp of aloe vera gel and a few shakes of jasmine oil.

DSCN0823.JPG

Here is the finished gel once everything was stirred together well. Once I was done I placed it in the fridge. It will keep there for about 1 1/2-2 weeks.

The consistency of this gel is kinda slimy and works great for the hair. It leaves my hair feeling soft and give it sooo much curl definition. This works well for slicking the edges down a bit, twist outs, braid outs and flat twists. It will keep in the refrigerator for about 2 weeks and the best thing about it is you can make more whenever you want, add whatever you want and it’s 100% natural!

I really hope that you enjoyed this quick and easy DIY! Don’t be afraid to get in the kitchen and make magic happen!

Until next time! 😉

DIY Brown Sugar Lip Scrub

Hello all and welcome to a new and super quick DIY post where you can get to see if these DIY project work out by watching me do it first! This time I decided to try out a homemade brown sugar lip scrub. I found this idea on Pinterest and figured that it would be a great little project to do especially in the winter time to avoid dry, ashy lips.

What I used was vanilla extract, coconut oil and brown sugar (duh), mixed them together in a small bowl to get a creamy mixture. For the measurements I used 2 tablespoons of coconut oil and brown sugar with a capful of vanilla extract. This recipe can be altered to your own liking if you want. There are a lot of different pins on this easy project so you can take from here and there to get the final product that you are looking for. Down below are some pictures that I took while making the lip scrub but down to the bottom line, I feel that I didn’t use enough sugar because it was too creamy. If I decided to make this again, I’ll to a 2 to 1 ratio of the sugar and oil. Other than that, I like it!

Here are the pictures, enjoy! ^_^

Product items

These are the things that I used to get that Sugar Scrub. You probably already have these in your cupboards 🙂

DSCN0713

I used 2 tablespoons of brown sugar. Since I can’t ever seem to find any of my measuring items, I only have this one picture of the sugar. Just pretend that this is 2 separate spoons, haha.

DSCN0714

This here is organic coconut oil. Normally I like to use extra virgin and organic but I didn’t have a chance to get to the whole foods store. Anyways, I used 2 tablespoons of this as well.

DSCN0721

2 tablespoons of brown sugar in a small bowl.

DSCN0728

2 tablespoons of coconut oil added to the mix.

DSCN0730

Mix well with a spoon.

DSCN0732

I also added some vanilla extract for smell and flavor. Just a capful.

That’s how it came out! Like I said before I think that if I make this again I’ll do a 2 to 1 ratio just so it’s not so creamy. It felt like the sugar was melting too fast. If can suggest anything it would be to make sure to use this after it’s been refrigerated for a little bit. Coconut oil gets solidifies once it gets below 76 degrees so that may make it a little bit easier to use the scrub on the lips.

That’s it for this post! Be sure to take a look on Pinterest to see other modifications on this recipe! Stay tuned for next weeks post about how awesome coconut oil is for removing makeup! 😉

Dollar Tree Finds! ^_^

Hey! What’s good?

Today I have for you some great finds from the Dollar Tree (in case you didn’t read the title). Now, I know what you’re thinking, “Uh, the Dollar Tree?! Everything there is crap!”, and you might be right but only about some things. A lot of things are worth buying especially for that one dollar price. A few days ago I was thinking of decorating our kitchen with leaves and pumpkins of some sort, since it’s fall and all of that. I had the chance to get over to the Dollar Tree to take a look at what they had for decor. As usual, they always have a ridiculous amount of items to sort though but I was able to come up with these.

Just a few fall items that I got from our local Dollar Tree

It looks like a big ‘ol mess jumbled up on the table like that but it’s fairly easy to sort out. While there I found some refrigerator magnets, fake leaves and leaf vines, candles, red glitter leaf center piece and other stuff that I probably didn’t need to buy. 🙂 Here are some more pictures of the other things that I managed to find there.

Here are the Dollar Tree goodies!

Umm, I'm not so sure about these ones. I had gotten some in my Boxy Charm box this month and figured I'd try these ones out since I liked the other ones to much...Yeah, not all nail wraps are made the same. These are basically stickers for your nails. But I guess that I can find some kind of use for them.

This is a powder for your brows (duh). Since I went pan on my E.L.F. Cosmetics brow kit, I thought this might be a good replacement. Let's hope so!

Now that is out of the way, let’s get to the decor! It’s not something too fancy but enough to make the kitchen look and feel more like the fall season. After placing the table cover I taped up some leaves on the cabinets and walls to make it look more…festive. I placed a couple candles on the both sides of the red glitter leaf center piece with a leaf wreath around them and placed a small candy dish in the shape of an acorn with mini tootsie rolls. So far, it looks pretty decent. I think that I might do the same for our living too, I dunno yet. Anyways, here are the pictures! 😀

I’m pretty happy about how it turned out. It’s nice and seasonal PLUS it only came to about 30 dollars for everything. Hope that you enjoyed this short post and keep an eye out for the Blood Moon photos! 😀

Strawberry Sweet Of Yum

Hey guys!

I made this absolutely yummy “strawberry chimichanga” today and yes, it was BOMB! I was scrolling down on pinterest to find something simple and sweet to eat and came across this.

The ingredients are simple and the chimichangas easy to make. Since I did get this from another blog, I’m going to share the site with you all and some pictures of what I did and how I made it. If you want to know how to make this delightfully delicious treat, go here http://omgchocolatedesserts.com/strawberry-cheesecake-chimichangas/ This blogger has many awesome desserts that are sure to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Now, on the the pictures! 😁

image

You'll need cream cheese, sour cream, vanilla extract, sugar, strawberries (duh 🙂 ), cinnamon, vegetable oil, toothpicks and soft tortillas shells

image

I like to add a lot of strawberries to the mix

image

Make sure to always wash your fruit off

image

Place the cream cheese, sugar, vanilla extract and the sour cream in a bowl and blend. You can read the whole recipe in the link above.

image

Make sure to mix well

image

I used a big table spoon and added one scoop onto the tortilla. After spread the mixture around in the tortilla

image

Folding the tortilla is easy. Just pretend it's a burrito! I guess it is in a sense.

image

Your sweet should look something like this after. Place a toothpick in it so that it will stay closed when cooking. You can take it out either during or after cooking. I took mine out during so I could flip it easier

image

Now cook the sweet in the oil for about 2-3 minutes

image

In the mean time, mix the cinnamon and sugar together

image

It should look something like this after.

image

Cook until golden brown on both sides

image

Next let the sweet drip on some paper towels so that it can absorb some of the oil

image

When the sweets cool, give them a dip in the cinnamon and sugar mixture that you made and set aside

image

You can place them in a container or hand them out to your family and friends

image

I like to add some strawberries to top it off. This is one on my new favorite sweets! Try it out for yourself!

A HUGE shout out and thank to Vera who shared this wonderful snack with the rest of us. Remember, if you want to know the full recipe, take a gander on Vera’s blog page, oh my god chocolate desserts  http://omgchocolatedesserts.com/strawberry-cheesecake-chimichangas/.

She has so many delicious treats to share with you! 🙂

Easy, Fancy DIY Nails

Hello ladies! 👋

Today I have a super cute, super easy DIY for your nails. This one is so easy in fact, you may already have the items at home.

All you’re going to need for this is:

1.) Nail polish, any color you want

image

This is the color that I picked along with the base/top coat

2.) Top coat/base (the clear kind. I like to use top coat for both the base and and top, Mainly because I’m too lazy to buy and apply a base coat polish, haha)

3.) Lastly you will also need some of those metallic temporary tattoos. You can find them at places like Wal*Mart and online stores. I personally prefer Wal*Mart because it’s only 1 dollar per sheet. You can’t beat that! 👍:)

image

Tattoo sheets that I got from Wal*Mart. They were only a dollar too!

The first thing you’re gonna do is paint your nails with a base/top coat first so that the color from the second nail polish doesn’t stain your natural nails. If you don’t mind the staining, just skip this part.

image

Paint your nails with the clear coat first

After the base/top coat dries, paint your nails with the second nail polish of your choice of color. I like to use a dark color because it stands out more when I place the temporary tattoo.

image

Then use the color that you want

When the second nail polish has dried, cut the piece that you want from the temporary tattoo sheet, place it on your nail and apply the tattoo as if you would on skin. Use a damp rag on the piece of temporary tattoo and wait for about 10 seconds or until the tattoo has come off of the sheet onto your nail completely.

image

Here are the tattoos that I picked

And BAM! Now you should have a painted nail with a temporary tattoo that looks maahvelous, daahling! 😁

image

And here is the finished application of clear base, color polish, tattoo and clear top

Once you’ve finished all the nails with the tattoo bits, you can use the base/top coat to secure the second polish and tattoo. And don’t worry, if you are ready to take everything off, plain ol’ nail polish remover does the trick.

See? Super easy, right? This is one of my favorite fancy nails to do when I have the time.

Not For Only One Crowd

This is your girl coming back at you with just a really quick, really super duper fast post. I wanted to be clear and make sure that we are on the same page and in a way, we already are.

When I started this blog some four years ago I only had one targeted audience that I wanted to get through to and that was the female population of Muslims. At that time I was homeschooling my son (and still do) and wanted to share my ideas that we did together at home. In a sense I’m still trying to target that same audience but I wanted to make that audience bigger than that. I figured that I’d try to reach out to the female population as a whole. I’am and we are women, are we not?

This time around I didn’t want to cut out a huge chunk of women because they are not Muslim. My blog and my posts are meant to be helpful to all females from all walks of life. I want to share my ideas, likes, dislikes, experiences and whatever else with the ladies of the interweb.

**Now, (black lady finger waving time, haha) if you aren’t a Muslim female and like my content, that’s great! That’s what I’m going for. If you aren’t a Muslim female and don’t like my content, that’s great too! If you don’t like that I wear hijab or pray to Allah, that’s fine. You don’t have to. You don’t have to like everything that I like or dislike. I just ask that you try to remain positive in your comments if you make any.

*If you are a Muslim female and like my content, that’s great as well! If you are a Muslim female and don’t like my content, that’s also great! As I said before, you don’t have to like what I like. But with both of us being Muslim females, we both should practice the “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything”. Honestly, I have been looked down more from Muslim women than I have non-Muslim women. Sad, ain’t it? Some people are quick to give “advice” to someone without even knowing the whole situation. And some of those people are even faster to make themselves feel like they are in a higher place than the other because they gave that “critical” advice. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t advise people, not at all. What I’m saying is that if you don’t like that I post about this kind of makeup or that kind of high heels or this kind of fashion then I shouldn’t post about it at all.

***This blog is made out of my own likes and dislikes, experiences, up’s and down’s and is made to cater to all women regardless or race, religion, personal preference, whatever. I’m not trying to stick to one specific type of female but instead all women. If there is something that displeases you because of your personal tastes, know that it was something that was pleasing to me first and you don’t have to like, share or follow me.

Easy DIY Light!

Hey guys!

I’m coming to you from my tablet today but I wanted to share a really short post with you all. I know that a lot of bloggers are also YouTubers and we all know that sometimes starting out can be kind of tough to film and use lighting in the way that you want. I wanted to get a diva light but don’t have 100 plus dollars to cough up so I went on a quest searching for something that will give the same effect but for a lower price and this is what I found. This YouTuber made a video of how easy it is to add the extra lighting your videos might be missing. After I saw this I had to give it a try, not for making videos but for my vanity in my room. It’s super easy to make and affordable. Just watch the video and see for yourself! https://m.youtube.com/watch?list=FLq82ULzvmdeqvKjZSnrHUWw&v=DgCZP0UQdi8

Here is what I cam up with. 🙂

**NOW, WITH THAT OUT OF THE WAY, LET GET SERIOUS. AS I SAID BEFORE, ALWAYS BE CAREFUL WHEN MAKING ANY THIING THAT CAN GET HOT. FOR THIS PROJECT I USED PARCHMENT PAPER SO THAT IT CAN STAND THE HEAT FROM THE LIGHT BULB (60 WATT) AND IT’S ONLY ON JUST A FEW MINTUES EVERY FEW DAYS. PLEASE JUST USE CAUTION WHEN USING ANYTHING ELECTRICAL OR WITH A NY DIY PROJECTS!**

This is my new light!
